Brain Surgery 11/30/2016

If you haven't heard already Mom (Brenda) has a Meningioma in the Right Frontal Lobe that was found last October after a random fall but has now doubled in size in about a year. 

Since last December Mom has endured Breast Cancer that was diagnosed on December 15, 2015 and then had a double mastectomy January 19, 2016.  She has gone through a full reconstruction and just completed that just a little over a month and a half ago and now received news last Thursday that this tumor in her brain needs to come out very soon!

So....this tumor that is not our friend has been causing many problems that we thought were other things but now we know are from this tumor!  She has left sided weakness, especially her left leg and foot drop in her left foot.  Mom is going to physical therapy prior to surgery to help with her strength and then she will be in neuro rehab at Trustpoint for 2 to 6 weeks post op. 

Please keep my Dad, us 3 kids and our families and my grandmother in your prayers and encourage her through this process.

Mom is home!

Mom was released from UNMMC yesterday morning and they are back home in Lubbock.

Mom said she rested well last night but still has alot of pain.

Thursday Morning

I spoke to my Mom this morning.  She is still pretty groggy but is more away than yesterday.  Apparently the anesthesia was really strong or her body just was tired. 

They could not get her awake to do Physical Therapy yesterday but she was already wanting to sit on the edge of the bed this morning when talking to her and Dad. 

She is having to wear a neck brace for about 6 weeks since the doctor's had to go up 2 more vertebrae into the cervical area of the spine.  To keep her chin from pointing down to her chest so the fusion can heal.  She stated she is hurting but the doctor's were giving her lighter pain medicine because she was so "drugged". 

Please pray for clarity for her and for Dad to have the stamina and get some rest.

Just got off phone with Dad and Mom walked this morning and was sitting up in the chair but was starting to hurt more but had a pretty good night.

Update from Wednesday Morning

Sorry this is short but I am at work!

Mom did well through surgery and they were happy with results now.  She was able to go back to a regular room last night.

Dad slept some.

Mom hoping to get a different neck brace this morning because the one she has on is too big.

Hoping to get up this afternoon. 

Once I hear from Dad I will update again.

Bad Last 24 hours

Well, Mom is headed back into surgery at 1:00PM New Mexico time which is in about 15 minutes to do some damage control on the upper left side and to go up 2 more vertebrae to stabilize her neck and and shoulders more.

Mom is having a difficult time with this decision because she does not want more surgery, but it is imperative she does for her continued mobility. 

As her and Dad were walking out of the doctor's office in Albuquerque her legs started having severe spasms and would not let up.  Dr. Antony and Dr. Patterson are concerned about these spasms and that they are coming from the area in the upper part by her shoulders.

Please pray for comfort for my Dad and us kids!  Please pray for Mom's quick recovery!

Mom is Really Home Now

Great news!

Mom was discharged from Rehab today because the physican at the rehab facility felt like she was doing TOO good to be there.  She will now be going to rehab at an outpatient facility and Sarah will be taking and picking her up everyday.

Please pray for continued healing and great progression!  She is doing great and would love visitors!

Also, please keep my Uncle Dauber in your thoughts and prayers.  He has had another heart attack yesterday and it has damaged his heart this time!  He continues to be on the ventilator and it is a hard road at this time.  Please pray for stamina for my Aunt Treva and cousins, Lane and Paige.  They are tired and very worried!

Mom made it home to Lubbock

Mom is now at TrustPoint Rehabilitation Center in Lubbock room 106 for a few weeks. They made it home Friday evening safely and she was totally worn out yesterday!!
She is frustrated right now because the staff there is not meeting her expectations! So please pray for mom's frustration to settle and that tomorrow (Monday) show some vast improvement from this weekend.

Also keep my Uncle Dauber in your prayers. They were able to extubate him yesterday afternoon but had to be reintubated in the night. Please pray for my aunt and cousins to not be discouraged but to keep up the fight.
